Best non-fiction books about world’s problems in 2020
There are a lot of excellent non-fiction books out there, dealing with our world problems and of course there are a lot of urgent problems with our world. Especially since the beginning of 2020 and the COVID-19 craze.
But if one needs to focus on the most important ones, I would recommend the following list. Not all books are written in 2020, but anyway most of nowadays problems are not since yesterday.
As I am not able to rank the problems according to their urgence or importance (they all seem important to me), I will follow the A-Z approach by title.
This book, written by Jennifer A. Doudna, one of the inventors of CRISPR is a honest account of the risks associated with gene editing by the same scientist, who introduced the technology into our world.
The author grew more and more aware of the dangers, associated with CRISPS, as it became widespread and perfectly affordable to any scientist as well as layman, who decides to play god in his garage.
The lack of understanding of the potential impact of gene editing and the still missing regulations in the field, present a real danger to mankind and the planet as a whole, especially modifications, which are inherited and passed on by the future generations and which could become irreversible.

No matter in which part of the world you live, discussions about gender topic most certainly are present in your everyday media feed and in discussions with friends and relatives. And while most topics concern equality, civil rights and legislation dealing with new emerging gender concepts, one often overlooked conversation should be about the fate of the 21st century male.
This book addresses the worrisome statistics, which show that growing numbers of young men choose to live with their parents till their 40s and even onwards, are not able to manage by themselves and often choose not to build families and raise children of their own. The author, Dr. Leonard Sax MD PhD, elborates on controversial topics like: changes at school, video games, medication for ADHD and endocrine disruptors. Whether Donald Trump will remain president of the USA is rather irrelevant for the importance of this book. The memoir of Michael Cohen, the former lawyer and personal fixer of Trump, as he describes himself is a warning for all political weaknesses and flaws in the American political system, which made possible for Donald Trump to win the elections in 2016 and still to have chances for re-election in 2020.
The book is a honest portrayal of Trump as a businessmen, leader and human, with all his peculiarities, strengths and weaknesses and not one tiresome rant about his evil misdeeds.
Michael Cohen is sincere enough to admit his own mistakes for the period of being one of Donald Trump’s most trusted men and the book is a very realistic account for the way of the super rich and powerful in today’s USA.
Don’t expect a bookfull of cheap tabloid style entertainment, but anyway be prepared for some really sobering examples of abuse of power and influence.

The year 2020 definitely raised the health related anxieties of people – maybe justified or maybe not so much. Many people just forgot about their present and past medical concerns and focused on one big topic – COVID-19. And because diagnosis started to loom like some kind of doom, this particular book by Dr. H. Gilbert Welch, dedicated to overdiagnosis, is ever so relevant for managing patients in 2020.
Media nowadays plays a significant role in directing the self awareness of the population in regards to their health (the COVID-19 phenomenon is a great example). And sometimes the public goes in the wrong direction. This combined with the financial interests of healthcare suppliers and the strive of medical doctors to make anything possible to avoid lawsuits for negligence or medical mistreatment leads to a real epidemics of overdiagnosis and overtreatment, which affects healthcare system resources, doctors professionalism and patients health and wellbeing.
